Maple Plain City Council Approves Development Program and TIF District to Support Redevelopment and Housing: The Maple Plain City Council has approved a Development Program for Development District No. 2 and a Tax Increment Financing (TIF) Plan for TIF District No. 2-1. This action is an important step toward encouraging redevelopment and new housing in Maple Plain.
The Development Program creates Development District No. 2, which covers the entire city. This program gives the City a clear plan to support future redevelopment and reinvestment projects. As part of this approval, the City Council also created TIF District No. 2-1. This TIF district is intended to help support a proposed apartment development with about 95 market-rate housing units. Utility Rate Updates to Support Essential Services: The City of Maple Plain provides water, sewer, and stormwater services as enterprise operations. This means these services function similarly to private utilities, with costs recovered through user charges such as monthly utility bills. This structure ensures that those who use the services directly support their operation and long-term sustainability.
With the adoption of the final 2026 enterprise fund budget, the updated rates include a 5% stormwater service rate increase, an 8% water service rate increase, and a 3% sewer service rate increase. The proposed adjustments will take effect in the second quarter and are necessary to sustain high-quality, dependable utility services for all Maple Plain residents. For more information, click HERE.
Daylight Saving Time Begins in March: Daylight Saving Time begins in March, bringing longer daylight hours in the evening and a shift in our daily routines. This year, clocks will “spring forward” one hour at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 8. Residents should remember to set clocks ahead before going to bed on Saturday night. While the change may take a few days to adjust to, the added daylight can support outdoor activities, safer evening travel, and energy savings. This is also a good time to check smoke alarms, replace batteries, and review home safety plans as we transition into the spring season. For more information, click HERE.
Responsible Pet Ownership in Maple Plain: The City of Maple Plain reminds all pet owners of important rules to keep our neighborhoods safe, clean, and enjoyable for everyone.
- Dog Tags: The City of Maple Plain offers dog tags to help keep our four-legged residents safe and to assist West Hennepin Public Safety when a dog is found wandering or separated from its owner. These tags are a simple, effective way to ensure lost dogs can be quickly identified and returned home. Learn more HERE.
- Leash Laws: Dogs must be leashed at all times when on public land. Leashes can be up to 20 feet long, but must be shortened to 6 feet if another person or animal is within 20 feet. This helps prevent unwanted contact and keeps everyone safe.
- Supervision on Private Property: Dogs cannot roam freely. If outside on private land, they must be properly supervised and restrained using a leash, fence, tether, electronic pet fence, or reliable voice control.
- Dog Limit: City Code allows no more than three dogs per household in Maple Plain.
- Cleaning Up Pet Waste: Owners must clean up after their pets on both public and private property. Always carry bags to pick up waste when walking your pet. Pet waste is more than just messy—it carries harmful bacteria like E. coli and contributes to water pollution. When left on the ground, it can wash into local waterways, harming people, pets, and wildlife.

Maple Plain Calls for “Hydrant Heroes”: During snowy winter months, fire hydrants can quickly become buried by plowed or drifting snow. When first responders are forced to dig out hydrants during an emergency, valuable response time is lost. Time that can make a critical difference. To help keep our community safe, the City of Maple Plain is asking residents to become “Hydrant Heroes” by helping keep fire hydrants clear throughout the winter. Fire officials recommend maintaining a clear, 3-foot path around hydrants so they can be accessed immediately when needed. For more information, click HERE.
Winter Parking Restrictions: Winter parking restrictions went into effect on November 1st. No parking on city streets: 1 am to 7 am. Following a snow fall of three inches or more in depth, it shall be unlawful to park or permit to be parked, or to continue to park or permit to stand, any vehicle upon any street until the snow has been plowed from curb to curb or the same has been otherwise disposed of.
