Brown Water Notice: As construction continues on the Industrial Street Improvement Project, some residents may notice temporary water discoloration, sometimes called “brown water.” This can occur during water main work when naturally occurring minerals inside pipes become disturbed. The discoloration is temporary and is generally not a health concern.

What You Can Do:
• Run cold water for several minutes until it clears
• Avoid laundry while water is discolored
• Try flushing again later if discoloration continues

City staff and contractors are actively flushing the water system and working to minimize disruptions during construction. Thank you for your patience as these important infrastructure improvements are completed. For more information, click HERE.

2026 Steet & Infrastructure Project: Two street and infrastructure improvement projects will take place in Maple Plain this year. The first project is located on Industrial Street. This project will include pavement resurfacing, minor curb and drainage improvements, and full replacement of the watermain. The second project will occur in the downtown area, primarily on Main Street East between Maple Plain Public Works and the Hennepin County Library. Additional improvements will extend to Pioneer Avenue, Delano Avenue, Maple Avenue, Marsh Avenue, and Spring Avenue. The project will involve full reconstruction of the street, watermain, and sanitary sewer lines. New sidewalks and additional street lighting will also be installed to enhance accessibility and safety. Construction for both projects is anticipated to begin in May or June and conclude in the fall. For more information, click HERE.

Fire Danger and Burning Restrictions: The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has expanded the area subject to open burning restrictions of vegetative debris, as warm and dry weather spreads throughout the state. Escaped fire from burning vegetative debris is the number one cause of wildfires in Minnesota, and burning restrictions help reduce wildfire risk. The City of Maple Plain is currently classified as being in a high fire danger area. This means fires can start easily and spread quickly. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has issued a Restricted - Variance Permits Only for Maple Plain.  In Minnesota, “Restricted – Variance Permits Only” during a burn restriction means the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has temporarily stopped issuing normal open burning permits because wildfire risk is high. Only special-case burns approved through a variance permit are allowed. For more information, click HERE.
