During snowy winter months, fire hydrants can quickly become buried by plowed or drifting snow. When first responders are forced to dig out hydrants during an emergency, valuable response time is lost. Time that can make a critical difference.

To help keep our community safe, the City of Maple Plain is asking residents to become “Hydrant Heroes” by helping keep fire hydrants clear throughout the winter. Fire officials recommend maintaining a clear, 3-foot path around hydrants so they can be accessed immediately when needed.

Due to limited resources, the City is not able to ensure that every hydrant is cleared after each snowfall. Even if the hydrant is not located directly next to their home, residents are encouraged to “adopt” a hydrant and dig it out after major snow events.

A few minutes of your time can help first responders act quickly and keep our neighbors safe. Thank you for helping Maple Plain be prepared this winter.
