attaching a dog tag

The City of Maple Plain offers dog tags to help keep our four-legged residents safe and to assist West Hennepin Public Safety when a dog is found wandering or separated from its owner. These tags are a simple, effective way to ensure lost dogs can be quickly identified and returned home.

Dog tags are issued directly at Maple Plain City Hall for a one-time fee of $5 per tag. Unlike many licensing programs, Maple Plain dog tags do not expire, meaning there is no need for annual renewal. In addition, no vaccination documentation is required to obtain a tag, making the process quick and convenient for residents.

The sole purpose of the City-issued dog tag is identification. When West Hennepin Public Safety encounters a lost dog wearing a Maple Plain tag, the tag allows staff to easily connect the animal with its owner, reducing stress for both pets and families and minimizing time spent away from home.

Residents are encouraged to ensure their dogs wear a City of Maple Plain dog tag at all times. Even well-trained pets can become lost, and a tag can make all the difference in a fast and safe reunion.

For more information or to obtain a dog tag, please visit City Hall during regular business hours.
