Are you interested in serving your community? The City of Maple Plain is reminding eligible residents that the filing period for the 2026 City Council election is now open.
Residents interested in running for City Council may file an Affidavit of Candidacy at Maple Plain City Hall, 5050 Independence Street, during regular business hours. A non-refundable $2 filing fee is required.
Candidate Filing Period
- Opens: July 14, 2026
- Closes: July 28, 2026
The Maple Plain City Council is composed of the Mayor and four Council Members who are elected at large to represent the entire community. Council Members serve staggered four-year terms and are responsible for establishing city policy while working with the City Administrator to guide the community's future.
Prospective candidates are encouraged to review the available election resources before filing, including:
- 2026 Minnesota Campaign Manual
- 2026 Campaign Financial Report
- Newly elected Council Member training, which will be held in February or early March 2027.
