Maple Plain Sign Guideline

Political signs are permitted in the City of Maple Plain in accordance with state law and local regulations that protect free speech while maintaining public safety and community standards. For the 2026 election cycle, political signs related to the August 11, 2026 Primary Election may be displayed beginning June 26, 2026, which is 46 days before the primary election. Political signs related to the November 3, 2026 General Election may be displayed beginning August 25, 2026, which is 10 weeks before the general election. All political signs must be removed within 10 days after the applicable election.

Political signs may be placed on private property with the permission of the property owner. Signs must not obstruct traffic visibility, create safety hazards, or interfere with sidewalks, trails, utility boxes, or public rights-of-way. Political signs are not allowed on public property unless specifically authorized by law.

The City’s regulations are intended to ensure equal treatment for all candidates, parties, and viewpoints while preserving the appearance and safety of the community. Residents and campaign volunteers are encouraged to securely install signs to prevent damage or displacement due to weather conditions. Property owners are responsible for ensuring signs remain properly maintained throughout the election period.

The City of Maple Plain appreciates the community’s participation in the democratic process and encourages residents to exercise their right to civic engagement in a respectful and lawful manner.
