The City of Maple Plain is starting the 2026 Downtown Reconstruction Project. The project includes replacing the watermain and sanitary sewer, improve drainage with a new storm sewer system, and reconstructing Pioneer Ave, Delano Av, Maple Ave, and Main St E. and extending sidewalk. Marsh Ave and Spring Ave will be mill and overlayed, and Budd Ave between Main St E and Hwy 12 will be removed.
Timing:
-
Start: Week of July 6
-
Expected End Date: Late Fall 2026
-
Final Asphalt Layer: Fall 2027
Temporary Water
Where the existing watermain will be replaced, residents will be placed on temporary water service during construction. Temporary water provides the same potable water as the permanent underground watermain, but the pipe is installed above ground for the duration of the work. The temporary watermain must meet the same testing, flushing, and water‑quality requirements as the permanent water main before being placed into service.
Water Shutdowns
Water shutdowns are planned as part of this project. For any anticipated shutoff periods, residents will be provided with a notice delivered to the front door the day before. Maximum of 6 hours between 9am-3pm. Door hangers will be placed on doors to notify residents of the temporary shutdown. Emergencies do happen, however, and unplanned shutdowns and disruptions may occur.
Sanitary Sewer Service
Sanitary sewer service will mostly be provided at all times. However, planned disruptions will occur. For any anticipated longer disruption periods, residents will be provided a notice delivered to the front door.
Trash & Recycling Service
Trash and recycling bin should be placed as usual at the end of driveways. Construction crews will ensure the bins are placed in position to be picked up by Republic Services.
Private Improvements in Right-of-Way
Please reach out to the construction representative to see if improvements in your yard you have may be impacted by the construction. Curb will be removed and will impact several feet into the green space. If you have improvements such as landscaping, retaining walls, shrubs, bushes, flowers, sheds, irrigation systems, etc. in the right-of-way, it is not the contractor’s responsibility to work around them. The property owner is responsible for securing these private improvements and moving them if necessary to allow the project to be constructed. Neither the contractor nor the city is responsible for damages incurred to private improvements in the right-of-way. Any underground improvements (such as irrigation lines and heads, dog fences, etc.) should be located and marked so they are visible.
Future Updates
Brief project updates will be provided on the City’s website weekly throughout construction. You can sign up for email updates on the Project Information Page located at: 2026 Street Improvements | Maple Plain, MN
It is the intent of the City and the Contractor to complete this project as efficiently and conveniently as possible. Thank you in advance for your cooperation throughout the project.
