The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline offers safe, free, and non-judgmental support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for people experiencing emotional distress, substance use problems, or thoughts of suicide. Trained counselors can de-escalate a crisis, help create a safety plan, and connect people needing local treatment options or other support resources. They are also a helpful source of support, comfort and information for people worried about loved ones or friends.
The 988 Lifeline is comprised of a national network of over 200 local crisis centers, combining local care and resources with national standards and best practices. The Lifeline is sponsored by SAMHSA, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
