First placed into service in 1958, this fire truck holds a special place in Maple Plain’s history as the first brand‑new truck purchased for the Maple Plain Fire Department. It faithfully served the community for nearly half a century before being retired in 2007. For many years afterward, it rested in the Maple Plain Public Works building a quiet but powerful reminder of the generations it helped protect.
With Maple Plain now contracting fire services with the West Suburban Fire District, the truck has officially rolled on once again. In the 1961 photo, it can be seen in the background alongside members of the Maple Plain Volunteer Fire Department, a moment in time that reflects dedication, service, and small‑town pride.
Today, West Suburban Fire District is restoring the truck so it can continue to represent Maple Plain in parades and community events. While it no longer responds to emergency calls, it still carries the history of those who did.
To the generations of volunteer firefighters who served this community thank you! Your commitment lives on in every photo, every memory, and in the legacy you built.
