The City's utility billing includes water, sewer, and storm sewer drainage. In addition a water testing charge assessed by the state of Minnesota is also billed and remitted to the state.

Rates for all utilities are based on the funding required to cover operation, maintenance, and capital costs of the utility infrastructure which includes lift stations, water treatment plant, water mains and pipes, a water tower, sanitary sewers, and storm water management.

  • Water charges include a minimum fee (Water Fixed Fee) plus an additional fee based on the number of gallons used (Water Volume)
  • Every property connected to municipal water in the state of Minnesota is charged an annual connection fee to pay for water testing done by the Minnesota Department of Health. The City of Maple Plain collects this fee quarterly (Water Testing Fee, $2.45 per quarter) and reimburses it to the Department of Health.
  • Sewer charges include a minimum fee (Sewer Fixed) that covers up to 1,000 gallons. If more than 1,000 gallons is used additional Sewer Volume is charged.
  • The Storm Water Utility fee pays for cleaning, maintenance and improvements to the storm water treatment system throughout the City. Residential properties are charged $11.30 per quarter per lot and the charge for Commercial (non-Residential) properties is based on property zoning and billable acres.
